Day 5 Recap; Leaving our old stomping grounds

by EP on June 11, 2010

Having relived some good and bad memories that took place in and around the walls of West Point, we hit the road and headed along the Hudson River for New York City.

The scenery along the Hudson was pretty spectacular, but not as beautiful as the lunch we consumed at Pals Bagel & Deli in Nyack, NY. Once we loaded up on more energy and carbs, we briefly crossed into New Jersey and then back into New York by way of the George Washington Bridge. With the skyscrapers in the distance and sunny skies all around, riding into Manhattan was a welcomed thrill for each of us.

Instead of getting tangled up with taxi drivers and delivery men, we took the Riverside Park bike path along the west side of Manhattan. Unfortunately you never know what objects are laying around in NYC, which in turn forced Dan to yet again fix another flat tire.

We each met some old friends and colleagues from both our hometowns and West Point at a sports pub called Stout, making our time in the Big Apple an even more memorable experience. Thanks to everyone to coming out and having a few laughs and pints with us.

Big day ahead of us today. We’re not sure if our legs are getting stronger or just more and more sore, but as long as they keep working, we’re going to keep pedaling.
